Senator Douglas McCrory
Senator Douglas McCrory joined the cast of ActUp Theater's The Wiz of Oz performing as “Gatekeeper”. Senator McCrory is born and raised in Hartford, CT and earned a basketball scholarship to his hometown the University of Hartford. For Senator Doug McCrory, giving back has always been a top priority and ActUp Theater was thrilled to have him join our theater family.
Mayor Luke Bronin
Mayor Luke Bronin came to wish the cast a great performance at dress rehearsal for The Wiz. He stayed for practices and dance with us. He has been a long time supporter of ActUp Theater attending the 2016 social-justice themed production, Stand, the Musical saying, "Wow! I had no idea this was happening here!"
Tamron Hall: An Evening Of Philanthropy
Friday, April 20, 2018, ActUp Theater Company was the opening act for a celebration of philanthropy with award-winning journalist and former "Today Show" co-host, Tamron Hall. The Company performed with an original script paying homage to the evolution of philanthropy in the black community by Faithlyn Johnson. The event entitled, Francine Austin Presents: An Evening with Tamron Hall was hosted at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.
Marching with Mothers United Against Violence
We are so honored to have marched and performed, Saturday, April 21, 2018 with the Mother's United Against Violence. We must TAKE A STAND to protect our communities and families. Our young people cannot be victims in their own neighborhoods anymore. At ActUp Theater, our community theater creates a safe environment that allows youth to seek refuge, build relationships, and explore their own aspirations.
Woman’s March
We have been so blessed and honored to have marched and performed at the Woman’s March in 2018 and 2019 at the State Capitol Building. The Women’s Agenda is a tangible declaration of how we will protect and defend our rights, safety, health and communities.
